Its message is considered timeless, even as it was revealed at a definite time in history. Countless scholars have studied and explained the meaning and the message of this book for many generations, and in many cases their understandings were shaped by the cultural and political forces around them. For the first time ever, the Qur’an has been translated and explained from the perspective of an American Muslim scholar. Yahiya Emerick, drawing upon the best in the classical Muslim tradition including such luminaries as Ibn Kathir, Zamakhshari, al-Ghazali, Ibn Taymiyyah, Razi and others, has crafted a thoroughly updated work emphasizing the historical and cultural background of the man who first taught this message – Muhammad, the son of ‘Abdullah, peace be upon him. This translation and commentary provides a complete array of resources to help the reader understand the context in which the revelations were revealed. This in turn allows everyday readers to “step back in time” and “experience” the message along with those who heard it for the first time. Different points of view on interpretation and application are discussed and given equal respect, while all background information on the many nations and peoples that are mentioned are fully explored. This truly is a tafseer for our time. “Truly, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of night and day are signs for people who think deeply. They remember God while standing, sitting or lying down on their sides, and they contemplate the creation of the heavens and earth, (saying), “Our Lord!
